Apex parks board advertises four openings; clarifies youth representative is nonvoting

At the May 27 Apex Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting, staff and board members discussed upcoming vacancies and clarified reappointment procedures.

Ashley Gentry, Deputy Town Clerk, told the board the packet contained clerical errors that need correction before adopting the April 29 minutes: the 2026 meeting schedule is in the wrong format and the July 29 entry should read "no meeting" rather than "cancelled." She also asked that the minutes' header be changed to reflect the board's current name, Apex Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, rather than the prior commission name.

Following that clarification, a board member moved to adopt the April 29 minutes with Ashley Gentry's amendments; Lisa Mononttoya seconded and the motion was declared carried on a voice vote. Exact vote counts were not recorded in the transcript.

During the chairman's report staff announced openings: two regular member seats, one senior (age 55+) seat and one youth representative. The meeting briefly debated whether the youth position is voting; a board member corrected an earlier note and the group agreed the youth representative on this advisory board is nonvoting.

Board members also asked about reappointment application rules. Staff explained that members who served only a partial term (less than a full year) do not need to resubmit an application because their prior application remains on file; those who served a full year must submit a new application or otherwise verify they want to be considered for reappointment. Staff noted that incumbent Jeremy Kroom has submitted an application.
