Dania Beach CRA hears updates on façade grants, housing repairs and 2025 Port Everglades forecast; consent agenda approved

The Dania Beach Community Redevelopment Agency met Oct. 14 and received administrative updates on downtown business activity, housing-repair programs and a port forecast that agency staff said could bring increased overnight visitors to the area. The board approved the consent agenda unanimously.
Director Chin summarized economic-development activity and grant work downtown, saying GCoin Laundry at 225 Southwest Terrace completed renovations and, based on paid receipts showing $76,000 in investment against an original estimate of $57,000, qualified for a $25,000 façade grant that has been processed and paid. Chin said the storefront at 24 Northeast 1st Avenue—previously assisted through a façade grant—has now filled all retail spaces with tenants the director named as Aquaman dive shop, Heartbreakers Lab, H&M Market and Smoking Bay (pipes, accessories and fine tobacco); staff notified the chamber to welcome the new businesses.
On housing programs, Chin reported that the Rebuilding Together effort has completed 36 homes to date and that four remaining homes are awaiting dry weather to finish work. For the Safe at Home program, Chin gave month-end figures: 25 homes completed as of the end of September, four homes currently under construction, six approved and awaiting scheduling, and 10 homes in review for qualification; he added that the completed Safe at Home projects so far have been under $1,000 each.
Chin described a Visit Lauderdale tour of Port Everglades terminals and said the port forecasts "in excess of 4.4 million" cruise passengers in 2025, up from just over 4 million the previous year—nearly a 10% increase—adding that some terminals are using facial-recognition passenger check-in that can speed boarding to under 30 minutes. Chin also noted investments in terminal renovations and public art.
On regional planning, Chin said he has attended multiple workshops for the Six Pillars Broward 2045 initiative and that public presentations of the update—originally planned for November—are now likely to be postponed until March of next year.
Executive Director Sosa Cruz told the board that consultant RMA will present corridor analyses and recommendations for Federal Highway, Dania Beach Boulevard and portions of Sterling at the board’s November meeting. Sosa Cruz also reminded members about the Florida Redevelopment Association conference in West Palm Beach this week and noted the upcoming grand opening of the 101 Dania Beach Apartments near City Hall; she said staff are negotiating a possible parking agreement between the apartment developer and an LA Fitness location and have sent a draft agreement to the developer.
A motion to approve the consent agenda was made and seconded; the chair called for the vote and the consent agenda passed unanimously. There were no presentations, bids or items requiring discussion or possible action listed under items six through eight. Several board members offered brief comments of appreciation to staff before Chair Davis adjourned the meeting.
The board expects RMA’s corridor presentation at its November meeting; otherwise no additional action items were scheduled.
