Poolesville parks update: bathrooms, pond treatments and spring field preparations

King said crews cleaned and stored winter salt equipment and will reopen facility restrooms on or about March 15 as fields come back into service. "The next two weeks we'll be working on the parks — the ball and soccer fields — and we'll have bathrooms back in service by March 15," King said.
King outlined habitat and maintenance items: the town will plant crab apple trees to extend pollinator and wildlife food sources across seasons, expand a multi‑year pond treatment program to additional ponds next month to reduce algae and duckweed, and continue several Eagle Scout projects to install or repair bluebird boxes. He also asked residents to expect a surge in service requests as the community inspects parks after a long winter and said crews will prioritize safety and visible damage.
King and other commissioners praised staff for snow and storm response over the winter and recognized parks and operations staff at a recent PACK community event. King said the town will continue habitat buffers around ponds and reduce mowing frequency in spring to support nesting waterfowl and pollinators.
What comes next: residents can expect restrooms open in mid‑March and visible pond treatment work to begin next month; staff said they will continue to report on schedules and to accept citizen reports of park damage and maintenance needs.
