The Brunswick City Commission authorized the mayor to sign a construction agreement with Woodard Construction for Albany Street drainage improvements after staff reported long‑standing flooding problems in the 1600 block of Albany Street.
Public Works Director Albertson described the project as the top priority under the stormwater master plan for that area. Staff said the city received one bid and negotiated terms with Woodard rather than re‑bid. During the meeting staff reported a contract value referenced in the presentation as approximately $3.6 million and said funding would come primarily from SPLOST 22 receipts, a recently awarded Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) grant of $1.65 million, and a potential state economic/infrastructure grant expected to be up to about $500,000.
Woodard Construction’s representative, Jason Woodard, told commissioners the work would be staged to limit traffic interruptions; staff estimated about nine months of construction time, plus additional lead time for materials that could extend the calendar to approximately one year.
Commissioners discussed scheduling, utility relocations, ADA ramp and curb work the city will perform ahead of construction, coordination with GDOT where road crossings are required, and public notification plans. Staff committed to public notices, detour information and regular updates for affected neighborhoods and schools.
A motion authorizing the mayor to sign the agreement passed with no recorded opposition.
