Griffith Fire Department announces Fire Prevention Week events; FOP invites the public to picnic

Department representatives said an open prevention event is planned for Sunday, Oct. 5, and an additional event is planned for Saturday, Oct. 10.
A representative identified as the secretary for FOP Lodge 161 invited the public safety board and members’ families to an FOP picnic set for Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. at Isaac Walton in Griffith. The secretary extended a standing invitation to board members and their families to attend.
The volunteer‑services report recognized 91.25 volunteer hours for September and 8,269 hours year‑to‑date, noting 12 active volunteers and praise from board members for their service. The meeting record includes expressions of appreciation for volunteers who supported recent community events.
The board heard no contested items in the fire report and approved a separate fire hire (Nolan Davenport for Station 32) via voice vote during the meeting. The board adjourned after brief additional questions from the floor about roadwork and traffic.
