Board adopts Waxaw 2025 Parks & Recreation Strategic Master Plan

The Waxaw Board of Commissioners adopted the town’s 2025 Parks & Recreation Strategic Master Plan on July 8 following a presentation by Parks & Recreation staff.
Parks director Dina Sinsky walked commissioners through the plan’s inventory, priorities and capital‑improvement alignment, calling out top priorities including completion work at Harvey Clay, a separate master plan for David G. Barnes and the skate park, improvements and shade structures at the downtown park and greenways and connectivity projects that are already advancing through grants and feasibility studies.
Sinsky asked the board for direction on the future uses of several facilities — including the McDonald House, a community corner parcel and an older maintenance building referred to as '317' — and recommended moving the McDonald House to the business‑development budget if its programming migrates to the new learning center. Commissioners asked for follow‑up cost estimates for renovating other facilities and accepted staff’s recommendation to adopt the plan, which will be used to guide CIP prioritization and grant requests.
What comes next: staff will return with cost and timing studies for recommended facility renovations, continue greenways grant work and bring implementation items to the board as part of the CIP process.
