Rolling Hills to run summer feeding program at five stops after $20,000 grant

DJ, the district food-service representative, told the board the district will run a congregate summer feeding program with five distribution stops and that preparations will take place on Tuesdays with distributions on Wednesdays throughout the summer. "With this program, we can provide 7 days worth of meals to all families in the district with children ranging from 1 to 18," DJ said.

The board heard that the district was awarded a $20,000 grant from the National Hunger Alliance to support the summer feeding operation and to purchase equipment for the new high school kitchen. The food-service report named the five planned distribution locations as Biswell Elementary, Jackson Park, Synica Volunteer Fire Department, Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department and Harmony Lutheran Church in Buffalo.

DJ also described recent nutrition-engagement activities at the schools—including an international tasting event—and said the district will assign a trainee, Christy Magguire, to work under the food-service director beginning June 2. The district said the summer program will provide meals and also reimburse parents or guardians where eligible.

Board members asked the administration to publicize distribution dates and locations; staff said flyers and social-media postings will be used to notify families before the program begins.
