Student editors present Colt Chronicle; board awards achievement pin to student

Tiffany Booth, a seventh-grade English language arts teacher, introduced student editors from the Colt Chronicle and described their class-driven process for producing the school newspaper. "I teach seventh grade ELA, but also had the honor of teaching these lovely ladies," Booth told the board during the presentation.
The student editors explained how they select themes, assign articles and work through an editors' checklist. "We begin by developing a theme for the edition," Natalie Rogers said, describing editions tied to seasons, pop culture and school events. Students reported producing about 15 editions over the school year and shared samples with the board.
Board members praised the student-led approach and noted plans to support the program next year, including a future vote on stipends for the publication staff. The board presented a board-only "student achievement pin" to a student named Vega, recognizing her contributions to clubs including FFA, Student Council and the Drug Free Club.
Superintendent and board members commended the students' work and emphasized the program's value as a learning and community-engagement tool. The board indicated it will consider continued support and potential expansion into high-school career-pathway communications at a future meeting.
