County staff clarifies ambulance contract amendment; board extends agreement for one year

"It is the same contract moving forward. It's just that there was a date in the amendment ... we wanted to make sure that that date does not impact this amendment," the county manager said during the work session, explaining the change was procedural and not a substantive alteration of terms.
Staff said the current action extends the agreement for one additional year "as we finish the ambulance review," and that the termination date in the earlier amendment (May 31, 2026) will be carried forward so the extension runs through May 31, 2027.
Commissioner Thompson asked for confirmation that this amendment merely clarifies prior language; county staff repeated that there were no substantive changes besides the date clarification. Commissioners expressed support for a one‑year extension to allow consultants to complete a strategic review of ambulance services.
The clarified amendment was included in the amended consent calendar the board adopted by voice vote during the regular session; the consent calendar motion carried and the contract amendment will proceed according to the clarified dates.
Ending: No separate ordinance or second reading was required at the May 27 session; the board adopted the consent calendar containing the amendment and will follow up through normal contract processes.
