Commissioners were briefed on two major fall and late-summer events: Villa Fest and Autumn Jubilee. Lesie Allison CI told the commission that Villa Fest has been revised from a two-day event to a single-day event on Saturday, Aug. 22, and reported a finalized Villa Fest budget of $30,000.
"As of 5:00 today, our Villa Fest event has gone from a two-day to a one-day program," Lesie said, adding that the Chamber of Commerce will manage the beer tent and that Lions Club volunteers will help but more volunteers — and required alcohol-service certification — are needed.
Commissioners discussed the logistics of staffing a beer tent. Multiple members noted a requirement for BASSET or equivalent alcohol-service certification for volunteers serving alcoholic beverages. "It takes about a half an hour to an hour," one member said of the certification; commissioners explored options to coordinate training and to reimburse or otherwise support volunteers for any fee.
Autumn Jubilee planning is underway: Lesie and Eliza Eric will coordinate vendors and entertainment, and commissioners discussed shifting entertainment already contracted for Villa Fest if schedules permit. The commission also authorized rolling volunteer and merchandise plans (volunteer t-shirts, promo items) and noted opportunities to reuse vendor-confirmations across both events to manage costs.
No large contracts or new legislation were approved at the meeting; commissioners asked staff to provide updated vendor lists and timelines at the June meeting so that entertainment bookings and volunteer training can be finalized.
Next procedural steps: staff to circulate finalized vendor lists, identify volunteer training options and report back at the next meeting so that the commission can confirm service schedules and any certification reimbursements.
