Fund commission approves small event spending, addresses volunteer sign-up and poster contest timing

The Village Park Fund Commission on Tuesday approved modest event expenditures and moved to improve volunteer coordination and poster contest visibility ahead of summer programming.

Commissioners voted to authorize $200 total for two face painters at the Kites and Kicks event, with the usual vendor paperwork required (W-9, invoice and certificate of insurance). "Face painters — I'll second — all in favor?" the chair confirmed on a voice vote while final vendor paperwork was clarified with staff.

Separately, members approved spending up to $200 for parade float decorations, including balloon arch supplies, to ensure a visible trailer float for the July 4 parade. "Motion to spend up to $200 for the Fourth of July float," a commissioner said; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

Commissioners also examined a new volunteer signup link that had been routed through Parks & Recreation. "We voted on it at the last meeting," Eliza Eric said, but members noted it was posted inconsistently across the parks page and the fund commission's page. Commissioners agreed to repost and to send weekly volunteer reports while enthusiasm is high.

On the poster contest for the village's 250th America celebration, Mary Brunner Heights proposed leaving the exhibit up longer to increase exposure. "I have 13 posters; I'd like to leave it up a week later, like July 11," she said. The commission voted to extend the display/submission window to July 11 tentatively, pending a schedule check with Parks staff (Tim How).

Most votes were taken by voice; the commission asked staff to ensure vendor forms and reimbursement documentation are submitted before checks are processed.
