Bangor board approves field, fence and track work totaling about $154,426

The Bangor School Board approved a package of athletic facilities projects at its May meeting, authorizing three vendor contracts that administrators said would address drainage, turf and safety concerns at district fields and the track.
Field restoration: The board approved a $31,780 contract with Dirt Monkey (Sparta) to restore baseball and softball infields, replace warning tracks, address low spots and prepare a pad for a softball batting cage. Administrators said work will begin as soon as crews are available after the seasons end and that weather could affect the exact schedule. They noted booster-club interest in purchasing batting-cage equipment.
Fence repairs: Century Fence was approved to address heaving concrete posts, add driven posts, strengthen ties, widen gates for equipment access and make screening repairs at an estimated cost of $29,780.
Track resurfacing: The board approved a structural spray resurfacing and repainting contract with Fisher Track at $92,866. Administrators said the treatment will add a protective layer to the existing surface, extend useful life an estimated 10–15 years, and require a short closure (crews will restrict use for multiple layers and then return to paint and mark lines). The district will post closures and signs during the curing period.
Board members asked questions about how long fields and the track would be unavailable; administrators said the softball field likely would be usable within about a week after work but the baseball field will need longer for sod and grading to take. They also discussed the option of periodic maintenance contracts (roughly $1,800 every one to two years) to avoid larger rebuild costs later.
All three contracts were approved by voice vote.
What’s next: District staff will coordinate scheduling with vendors, provide notice to community users (Parks & Rec, Legion teams and boosters), and track weather-dependent start dates.
