Board honors students, CTE winners and Wilson‑trained teachers
Summary
The Blount County Board of Education recognized student athletes, choirs, CTE and ROTC achievements and honored teachers who completed Wilson reading-system certification after a year of training and practicum work.
The Blount County Board of Education opened its meeting with musical performances and a series of recognitions celebrating student and teacher accomplishments across the district.
The Heritage High School choir performed two selections for the board. The meeting then honored multiple all‑state athletes, All‑State choir and band members and students who qualified for national competitions from Eagleton College and Career Academy, Heritage High School, Samuel Everett School of Innovation and William Blount High School. Mayor Mitchell presented a proclamation honoring wrestler Tyson Click for winning a state championship.
District staff recognized CTE and SkillsUSA winners and the district’s Wilson‑trained teachers. Rachel Goens, the district’s Wilson trainer, said participating teachers "completed an online course on their own time that added up to about 90 hours of additional coursework," and also completed a practicum of 65 or more lessons with five observations during the school year.
Colonel Carmela Lawson and Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Jeff Kogan recognized ROTC teams and cadets who placed at state and national competitions, including a cyber‑patriot team and drill and color guard placements.
Student representatives from Eagleton, Heritage, Samuel Everett and William Blount reported activity from their schools, including spring sports advancing to postseason, awards and upcoming graduation dates.
Director/Superintendent Ridge and board members thanked students, teachers and staff for the school year’s accomplishments and wished the community a safe summer.
What’s next: the board will post the recognitions and forward student award details to district communications; several recognized students will compete at regional and national levels over the summer.
