Cerritos Planning Commission elects new chair and vice chair during annual reorganization

Chair Armen Reyes opened nominations after declaring the chair position vacant for the annual reorganization. Vice Chair Javari was nominated then declined. After nominations and a verbal roll-call vote, the commission appointed Commissioner Al as chair by a 5-0 vote. The commission then nominated and appointed Commissioner Chowan as vice chair in a separate 5-0 vote.
Commissioners and staff thanked outgoing Chair Armen Reyes for his year of service. Newly seated Chair Al said he was honored and acknowledged a “steep learning curve,” promising to work closely with staff and listen to residents. The commission took a brief recess to allow members to change seats and resume the meeting under the new leadership.
The reorganization was procedural; no policy actions were decided as part of the leadership changes.
