Council approves Main Street closures for Manchester Live summer events and covered-bridge awards ceremony

The Town Council granted Manchester Live permission to close Main Street for two planned events this summer and accepted the group’s hold-harmless agreement with INDOT.
Heather G, executive director of Manchester Live, described a rebrand of Second Fridays into a larger series called "Alive by the River," an expanded events calendar (13 events total for the season), and partnerships including a Hispanic Heritage Festival and a community cookout at Ogan’s Landing. She said the group has obtained county permission to temporarily close the covered bridge for a historic-preservation awards ceremony on May 28; that short closure will not include through-traffic for about two hours.
Council reviewed INDOT hold-harmless language (the town and event organizers agree to assume liability for rerouted traffic across Wayne Street and not to hold INDOT liable) and approved the requested closures for Friday, June 13 (car show) and Friday, August 18 by voice vote. Staff confirmed organizers had completed required paperwork and that the town would sign the required hold-harmless agreement.
Heather and event volunteers emphasized local music, small vendors and opportunities for local nonprofit fundraisers to participate in smaller events while larger events bring food trucks and larger foot traffic. Council thanked organizers for the expanded season and for coordination with county and state agencies.
