Village approves fence replacement bid; officials detail pump-station upgrades and April overflow

Jeffrey, speaking for village public-works staff, told trustees the authority obtained three bids to replace the fence around the pump station at the Harbor Hotel and recommended full replacement rather than repeated repairs. "The lowest bidder was $6,100," he said, and trustees voted to accept the low bid from North Country Fence.
Jeffrey also presented an amended Aqualogix quote for upgrades to the Mitchmar pump station that removes communications work completed at the State Street station and limits the work to level-control modifications; he asked trustees to review the quote and said staff could contact contractors if the board directs them to proceed. The authority also posted the 2025 annual water-quality report on the village website.
The village reported a DEC inspection of its chemical bulk storage at Cedar Point State Park. DEC requested a check valve at the fill port used for sodium hypochlorite and a copy of the engineer’s installation certification for the tank. The village obtained a letter from its engineers and the mayor signed the spill-response plan, which Jeffrey said resolves the DEC items.
Jeffrey reported an overflow at the East Union pump station during a heavy rain on April 5 that discharged mostly clear stormwater for about a half hour. The event was reported to regulators and, according to Jeffrey, corrective action will focus on inflow and infiltration in the affected segment of the collection system.
Trustees discussed a recent State Street repair where a contractor accidentally dislodged a core and the village’s operators worked with the crew to repair the line "live" to avoid a boil-water advisory; some customers experienced discolored water but Jeffrey said the water continued to meet state standards. The board also heard that an application for a residential water and sewer connection on Lot 17 on Washington Island is under review and that staff would act on it after further review.
The meeting ended with trustees asking staff to review the Aqualogix quote and the posted water-quality report and with routine procedural approvals recorded on the consent agenda.
