Millcreek’s police department briefed the board Feb. 24 on a series of department accomplishments and community programs and recognized Officer Christopher Larson for his leadership of the Police Athletic League (PAL) at Tracy Elementary.
Chief Mook told the board several command staff completed FBI leadership training and that the department is moving toward police accreditation. He said staff completed implicit bias and ethics training and that the department fully implemented the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), a mandate to replace the former Uniform Crime Reporting system.
Kelly Burk, assistant principal at Tracy Elementary, said the PAL ‘‘teaches far more than skills on a court or a field. Our students learn teamwork, responsibility, and perseverance,’’ and credited Officer Larson with building partnerships that broadened program support. The transcript records an Elks Lodge grant of $3,000 that helped expand PAL programming.
Captain Tom Weddings, representing the county PAL program, said the organization has expanded over a 10‑year period to 29 locations and more than 2,000 youth. The board and public gave the honorees applause and recognition; no formal action was required.
