Texas Bus Fest presents $5,200 donation; council approves $25,000 fire-assistance grant

Shirley Clark, producer of the Texas Bus Fest, presented a $5,200 donation to the city and thanked Morgan's Point Resort for hosting the long-running event. Clark said the event dates are typically the second weekend in October and that the Bus Fest raises money through merchandise sales, raffles and auctions.
Shortly after the presentation, the council took up Resolution 26.001, a memorandum to accept a state fire-assistance grant in the amount of $25,000. Chief Shane Sibley summarized permitted uses and the local match: the grant is specific to firefighting equipment; the city must match 5 percent ("which is 1,250"), and the funds will primarily pay for hose, nozzles and equipment to upfit the new brush truck. Sibley told council the grant will allow the department to replace damaged hose and to obtain equipment the department otherwise might have deferred for several years.
Council moved and seconded the resolution, then voted by unanimous consent to accept the grant and authorized the city manager to execute associated documents.
