Boil-water restrictions lifted for remaining homes after Mountain View water-main contamination

Mayor Emily Ann Ramos provided an update May 19 on the city-declared emergency following an April 24 incident in which cement slurry from a private contractor came into contact with a live water main north of Cuesta Park.
"So, last month we declared a state of emergency for the Cuesta water main contamination incident, which originally left 67 homes north of Cuesta Park originally affected them," Ramos said. She added that, "as of this evening on day 26 of the emergency response, the boil water restrictions have now been lifted for the remaining 21 homes."
Ramos said the lift of restrictions depended on negative bacteria test results and approval from the State Water Board. She emphasized that outside the affected area the city's water remained safe for drinking and other uses. The mayor apologized to affected families for the disruption and uncertainty caused by the incident and said the city would continue working to provide safe water services.
At the State of the City address, the mayor described the incident as involving a private contractor hired by the city that resulted in cement slurry contacting a live water main; she did not announce any formal findings of fault or any enforcement action. City officials have not provided a timeline for any repairs beyond the testing and clearance process described at the event.
