On state policy, Barrett said the House and Senate had each passed budget versions and were in conference committee, and she described a state proposal to expand paid parental leave from six weeks to 12 weeks. "The state is proposing expanded to paid parental leave from 6 weeks to 12 weeks and this is what we call a unfunded mandate," Barrett said, warning the district would need to absorb the cost for substitutes and staffing if the change is enacted without state funding.
Barrett said the district is awaiting final allocation numbers from the state and expected updated figures by the end of the week or next week. Board members asked questions but no formal action was taken. The finance office will follow up once allocations arrive.
