The McGregor City Council approved a proposal from Walker Partners for surveying and engineering to design a 16-inch waterline to tie the industrial park to Blue Bonnet Water Supply along State Highway 317, including a new meter and required backflow protection.
Staff said the project is intended to introduce surface water into the industrial park to reduce dependence on groundwater and to increase available capacity by roughly 1 million gallons per day for industrial users. "So, you're increasing you could increase your capacity up to 1 million gallons for the industrial park," a staff presenter said when describing capacity changes.
Council discussion included confirmation that the connection is a first step (design/survey) and that the line would primarily serve several industrial users at the park. One council member who identified themselves as the general manager of Blue Bonnet Water Supply stated on the record they would abstain from the vote; the motion carried by voice vote with that abstention noted.
The item also included related discussion about a separate pump-station reconstruction (the city’s SpaceX pump station) and an agenda labeling error (the council later clarified an item was mislabeled and could not be voted on as advertised). Staff said any meter and construction details would be finalized during design and later brought back to council for approval of construction and funding.
