Mayor Johnson read a proclamation recognizing National Emergency Medical Services Week. Scott Wrote, speaking for Belfont EMS, presented first-quarter statistics and policy requests: Belfont EMS responded to 513 emergency calls in the first three months of the year; the borough accounted for 26 percent of those calls (134). He reported 7,428 staff hours for career staff and 518 volunteer hours in the quarter and described fleet status including an ambulance with 264,000 miles.
Wrote urged council to consider sending a letter during EMS Week urging Pennsylvania leaders to move House Bill 1152 out of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee so the full House can consider it. He described HB 1152 as a measure "which would create a standardized ambulance fee schedule across the state" based on a percentage of Medicare reimbursement and said it would not affect Medicare or Medicaid but would improve commercial-insurer reimbursement and revenue sustainability for ambulance services.
Councilors asked clarifying questions about the bill number and thanked EMS for the proclamation and the report. Wrote encouraged individual council members to follow up with him if they wanted more information.
