Commission presses for response from Rep. Turco’s office on Revere Beach crossing safety

“I did leave a voicemail referencing the date of the letter that was the initial letter that was sent,” Vargas said, noting she had navigated the office phone system and left messages but had not heard back. She reported Turco was out of the office recently attending an event at Garfield School and said she would give it a few more days before trying additional contacts.
Vargas said she plans to contact a liaison named Julie who coordinates with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to try to get the issue routed to the appropriate state staff, and encouraged the commission to pursue multiple outreach angles. Commissioners emphasized pedestrian safety as a pressing concern as warmer weather brings more beach visitors; Vargas described a near-miss where she could not see an older woman walking a dog until nearly the crosswalk, underscoring visibility problems and the need for safety measures beyond traffic volume management.
The commission did not take a formal vote but agreed to continue outreach and provide updates in future meetings.
