Galena Park ISD bond update: Galena Park High Phase 3A and North Shore facility work progressing for summer openings

Ed Marte, Galena Park ISD director for facilities planning and construction, told trustees on May 4 that multiple 2024 bond projects are advancing and that crews continue to manage weather impacts.
Marte said Galena Park High School Phase 3A exterior masonry work is ongoing and that interior finishes — including terrazzo polishing and second‑floor floor finishing — are being completed with an anticipated facility opening at the end of June if weather permits. He described Phase 3B as the future multipurpose and sports building where excavation and select fill work are underway in preparation for foundations.
At North Shore Senior High, Marte reported expanded excavation north of the existing field house for a new weight room and noted removal of certain power poles after coordination with CenterPoint, enabling underground connections. The multiuse facility and band parking areas are also progressing; three small detention ponds and other stormwater work are visible on site.
Cimarron Elementary’s foundation slabs and utility piping were shown in project photos; Marte said termite treatment and maintenance oversight have been part of recent work to address campus issues. The batting‑cage slab and the pre‑engineered metal building structure arrived and were installed recently, while band field work is expected to finish in about two weeks, depending on weather.
Trustees asked how crews were protecting work areas from rain; staff replied contractors covered and sprayed areas to protect fresh work from recent rainfall.
No schedule revisions were announced at the meeting; Marte asked trustees and the public for patience as crews complete underground connections and finish exterior and interior trades.
The update focused on construction progress and did not include new bond financing actions or contract awards at this meeting.
