Dickinson County board approves routine claims, drainage payments and small repairs; will not extend consultant contract

At its May 25 meeting the Dickinson County board approved routine business: the May 19 meeting minutes, the May 25 claims register (which included a noted $306,000 bridge item), two drainage claims and a request by the county engineer to repair DD76 at an estimated cost under $1,500. Voice votes were used to carry the motions.
The board approved two drainage payments: one to the Dickinson County Secondary Road Department for a drainage-district cleanout and a second to ISG for work on Range District 19. Members also approved staff requests to clean up property-tax accounts where mobile homes had been removed, including a small delinquent-interest amount recorded in the register.
Board members discussed the Lewig consultant contract and agreed the county would not extend the contract beyond the current engagement; they instructed staff to pay what is due through his final report. “We thank Mr. Lewig for his experience. Um, but it’s time to move on,” a board member said during the discussion.
During committee reports members noted growing use of local hunger-relief efforts (45 meals delivered by one member to a local coalition), an upcoming de-escalation training on June 11 for county staff, and continued debate over a veterans’ memorial and whether the county should finance it or take funds only after bids and specific plans are provided.
The board adjourned and confirmed its summer schedule (second and fourth Tuesdays) with the next meeting set for June 9.
