Darien municipal services seeks public input on proposed residential commercial-vehicle parking rules

City staff and council announced a municipal-services committee meeting for Monday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. in council chambers to solicit public input on proposed changes to residential commercial-vehicle parking regulations.
A staff member described several elements under consideration: limit residential properties to one commercial service vehicle with signage allowed (examples: a plumber’s single van with ladder racks would be permitted); prohibit storage of construction equipment such as chippers, dump trailers or unattached snowplows in driveways; and allow larger vehicles or equipment only if fully screened from the right-of-way (for example behind a 6-foot fence). Enforcement would rely in part on neighbor complaints and photographic evidence to initiate a code-enforcement inspection. Staff said they had identified "approximately 40 to 50" affected properties and encouraged residents with concerns or questions to attend the Nov. 24 meeting.
