Council schedules October work session to review fireworks rules after resident complaints

Council person Jev said the Fourth of July period had been especially noisy this year and urged the council to study current ordinances and possible options, such as limiting the size of consumer fireworks or restricting use in denser neighborhoods. Jev recommended a work session in October to review the city’s ordinance and gather information from other municipalities.
"It's loud," Jev said, describing fireworks that begin weeks before the holiday and noting they were "getting louder and louder." Other council members and staff agreed that police resources are limited and that an ordinance review, public outreach and comparison with neighboring cities would be appropriate next steps.
The council asked staff (Jason) to investigate other cities' ordinances and bring findings to the October work session. No motion to change the ordinance was made at the July meeting; the council instead directed that the topic be researched and placed on the work-session agenda.
