Edgewood commission to start two-month review of subdivision ordinance

The Edgewood Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 18 moved to begin a focused review of the town's subdivision ordinance, with commissioners agreeing to collect suggested changes and give staff two months to consolidate input.
Commissioner Rush proposed the review, saying the subdivision ordinance "has been six years" since its last update and suggesting the commission start with that document. Commissioners asked staff to contact the municipal league and review other municipalities' codes (Clovis was cited as one example) for comparative guidance.
Interim Planning and Zoning Manager Rebecca Garcia said she would accept emailed suggestions and consolidate them, and commissioners agreed to reference specific sections in their submissions. One commissioner noted the review could benefit from more training and external examples; another mentioned having already run the ordinance text through an AI tool for initial feedback but stressed staff and the municipal league as primary resources.
The commission also discussed other staff matters during the meeting: a town wayfinding survey posted to Facebook and encouraging public input; a request for an updated zoning map; public maps left at stations and potential joint meetings with other officials; and playground and signage concerns raised by commissioners. Staff said they would follow up with the relevant project leads and departments.
Commissioners agreed the work to gather suggested ordinance edits should proceed over two months, after which staff will present a consolidated list for commission review. The commission's next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 16, with a 5:00 p.m. workshop that day.
