The Downers Grove Village Council voted unanimously Oct. 14 to adopt an ordinance establishing regulations for electric scooters, adding the device to the village's existing micromobility framework. Council members made a brief clarification that the new ordinance would add electric scooters to current micromobility rules and would not alter previously adopted rules for e-bikes (council clarification, SEG 780'SEG 786).
After a motion to adopt the ordinance and a second, Clerk (called for by the mayor) recorded a unanimous roll-call vote in favor (roll call SEG 791'SEG 802). Staff said a public-education campaign would follow implementation if the ordinance were approved (staff remark, SEG 786).
The ordinance brings scooters into the village's enforcement and safety framework; staff will prepare education and launch details with communications partners.
