Blakely electric installs new reclosers and borough highlights lower rates and community events

Council member Kyle Burak said the electric department completed installation of two solid-state circuit reclosers on the distribution system to improve fault detection and enable isolation of smaller areas during repairs. Mr. Burak also said Utility Engineers calculated that Blakely Borough Electric rates are 14% lower than PPL and that the borough shared that comparison on its Facebook page.
Mr. Edward J. Alco Jr. reported the borough now collects electronics year-round (pickup carries a fee) and noted cooperation with the Lackawanna County Environmental Office on tire recycling events, including one recent collection of more than 100 tires. Mr. Burak announced the borough's Halloween party scheduled for Oct. 25 at the Blakely Hose Company. Mr. Munley said a 2025 Ford F-550 bucket truck had been delivered and will enter service soon.
