The Dilley City Council voted on Oct. 15 to retain Garcia Gonzalez & Associates LLC as the city's independent auditor for fiscal year 2023'24. The motion to select Garcia Gonzalez was made by Mr Aranda and seconded by Mr Alvarez; the motion carried.
Council members said the decision was meant to provide an independent review after the city had worked with the same auditor for several years. "It gives you a different perspective on the city finances," Mr Aranda said during the discussion, noting checks-and-balances were a primary reason for seeking a different firm.
City staff told council the city issued a public request for qualifications that produced proposals, including one from the incumbent firm, Armstrong Von & Associates. Council members said both firms appeared qualified and recommended moving forward quickly so the selected firm could schedule the engagement.
The council instructed staff to contact Garcia Gonzalez & Associates to finalize scheduling and engagement details. The meeting record shows the motion passed with all members present responding in favor.
Next steps: staff will contact the selected firm to arrange the audit schedule and provide materials requested by the auditors.
