Select Board approves warrants, hears routine updates from public works and fire department

Public works staff reported routine maintenance: trucks were cleaned inside and out, a plow cutting edge was replaced and service work (oil and fuel filters) was completed; staff noted slow seasonal activity focused on plowing and preparations. Transfer-station staff said an extra bin that had been freezing was removed after the vendor advised the station was set up; speakers recalled that the bins were previously sprayed to prevent freezing but said that practice is no longer allowed.
A fire department representative said pump testing was ongoing and expected to finish the next day and that a reported issue with new apparatus had been resolved. Board members asked about bids on a truck being sold (an online sealed bid scheduled to close within two days). A member also reported that the dam had recently been closed, that water levels were rising about 2 inches per day and that the dam should be full in roughly a month.
The board received a cable-TV committee report that the committee would meet again on Monday to review an upcoming contract, heard a school-budget update noting a roughly 7% increase reported by school officials, and set the next select-board meeting for April 13 at 6:00 p.m. The town's 2012 emergency plan was noted as needing review; staff said the plan has been converted to an editable Word file.
