Custer County to seek bids for courthouse sidewalk after added $75,000 award; pond at Beck Ranch remains contested

Commissioner Paul told the board the state will add the $75,000 to a prior $50,000 request, with the project total “the total will be 375,” and said the county expects to go out for bid once the contract amendment is finalized. Commissioners said the sidewalk project has been planned for several years and they hope to complete it this season.
The board also heard from Chairman Bill Candock about an administrative contest concerning Shauner Lake on the Beck Ranch (Wendy and Kate Rusk were copied on a referenced letter). Candock said the original pond was built before 1972 and was later raised and augmented in the 1970s when fish ponds were installed commercially; staff are examining whether augments were formally filed, which would affect whether the feature meets the criteria for a suppression pond. Candock noted a filing/comment deadline of June 15; if no comments are received by that date the pond may remain in its current status.
What happens next County staff will work with CDOT and the regional planning body to finalize the contract amendment and prepare bid documents for the courthouse sidewalk. County staff will also continue the information-gathering and contact the property owners referenced in the pond contest.
