Chairman Bill Candock told the board the Guard will need “a thousand gallons of Jet A” and that the airport’s current fuel card reader “does not read the Guard’s card.” He said staff are exploring options, including a mobile card reader (a merchant “square”) and a staff-managed payment process that would route proceeds into the county treasury.
Candock described logistics steps already underway: a county staffer, Clyde, would operate a temporary payment process on-site to ensure the Guard can refuel for training, and staff will work with Treasurer’s Office procedures so funds are properly captured. The board also noted that the training could bring additional Guard personnel and aircraft to the airport beyond just the academy flights.
The county described the matter as operational rather than a policy debate: no formal vote was required and the airport will finalize arrangements before the June 4 training date.
