Brookfield's finance director told the Board of Selectmen the town is projecting roughly $200,000 more revenue than budgeted, citing the timing of a grant and higher-than-expected interest rates.
The director said expenditures are generally in line with expectations and that contingency funds should cover a planned public-works salary increase. "We're in good shape with revenue," the finance director reported during the meeting, and said staff will bring quarterly budget adjustments at the next meeting.
The board also announced receipt of a $769,000 grant for Streetscape Phase 4, which the director described as covering design work for the segment from Four Corners up to Newberry Village on the west side of the street, with construction targeted for next summer if no further delays occur.
No formal vote was required to receive the grant during the meeting; the board noted similar applications had been attempted previously and that this time the application was successful. Finance staff said some grant receivables remain unbooked until year end and described the police outside-services fund as having $275,000 unallocated.
Follow-up: staff said budget adjustments will be considered at the next meeting after department-head meetings; the board will proceed with design planning for the streetscape grant as funds and approvals allow.
