Colts Neck proclaims Alcohol Awareness and Donate Life months and honors state-championship boys basketball team

The Colts Neck Township Committee on April 9 proclaimed April 2025 as National Alcohol Awareness Month and National Donate Life Month and recognized the Colts Neck High School boys basketball team for winning the program’s first state championship.
Deputy Mayor Michael Viola read the Alcohol Awareness proclamation, citing national figures about youth drinking and urging community partnerships to strengthen enforcement of underage-drinking laws and prevention efforts. Committeewoman Sue Fitzpatrick read a separate proclamation recognizing Donate Life Month and described the shortage of organ donors; she urged residents to register and directed listeners to the New Jersey Sharing Network registry.
Former committeeman and New Jersey Sharing Network board member Barnameo told the committee that “one organ donor can save eight lives and one tissue donor can restore health to over 75 others,” described registry options and promoted a May 17 5K in Ocean Grove to raise awareness.
Mayor Bus presented a proclamation honoring the Colts Neck Cougars after the team’s 54–46 state final victory. Mayor Bus read the roster and coaching staff and invited players, the principal and coaches forward for photos; head coach Steve Janaron thanked the committee and highlighted the players’ commitment and teamwork.
The committee said it will circulate the proclamations to partnering groups, including the Colts Neck Prevention Alliance and the New Jersey Sharing Network, and will post photos from the recognition on the township’s new live stream and social channels.
