City administrator reports well repairs, stepped-up code enforcement and holiday events

City Administrator Ron briefed the Aumsville City Council on public-works and public-safety issues, reporting that one of the city’s larger production wells, identified in the packet as 'Boonwell 2,' is offline and likely requires rehabilitation in the roughly $50,000 range.
Ron said the well has chemical deposits (described as a sulfur deposit) and piping problems that will require parts and pre-treatment; staff emphasized the work is necessary before seasonal demand rises. He added that public works repaired several significant water breaks over the weekend and that the department is taking a more proactive approach to maintenance.
On public safety and code enforcement, Ron said the police department has been especially busy this month and that staff have stepped up enforcement to close outstanding code cases more quickly after community complaints. The council discussed peddler licensing and verification; staff said licensed peddlers wear a badge or lanyard and that licenses are posted on the city’s Facebook page and website. The council agreed to increase enforcement and to post signage at city entrances to warn unlicensed sellers.
Ron also outlined upcoming community events: a staff Christmas event at the Oregon Gardens on Dec. 5, a Christmas store hosted by the Exchange Club on Dec. 6 for children ages three to nine (free, with a volunteer-wrapped gift program and breakfast for parents), and a 'Christmas in the Park' event with Santa the following weekend. Council members gave inconsistent dates for 'Christmas in the Park' (both the 13th and 14th were mentioned); staff should confirm the final date for publicly distributed schedules.
Finally, Ron reported that the development-code update will go to the planning commission on the 20th, with clarifying language changes made by staff and an anticipated return to council at the first meeting in December.
The council did not take additional action on these items during the meeting; staff plans to return with estimates and scheduling details as needed.
