Council members used the Dec. 15 meeting to update the public on several city operations and community developments.
Mike Guppy reported that the land bank has completed a fourth demolition on H Avenue and that cleanup will proceed when weather permits. Multiple councilmembers and the mayor praised the street, sanitation and water crews for extended shifts during recent snow and freezing conditions.
Mayor Greg York described a difficult water-line repair on West 38, explaining crews worked through freezing temperatures to pump and repair a line that was compromised by a retired railroad track and an underground cement obstruction. "They had five or six hours on it," the mayor said, describing crews working in subzero wind chills to control the leak and pump the site.
The mayor also announced the death of longtime local businessman Buddy Hudson and offered condolences to Hudson’s family and the community.
The council’s operational updates included an invitation to the public to attend the final committee meeting of the year; no formal action on capital projects or contracts was taken at this session.
