"Whereas, Dr. Grant faithfully served as a physician for 50 years, dedicating her career and health to well-being to individuals in our community," Mayor York read from the proclamation. He also noted her long-time attendance at Indiana University and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and described her as "a lifelong resident" who contributed to local life for many years.
Dr. Phyllis Grant accepted the recognition and said, "Thank you." Councilmembers and staff applauded and offered personal memories of her service.
The proclamation is ceremonial and did not require formal council action beyond the presentation.
