Conservation commission readies the townplan for council review; members seek wildlife-action maps to append

Erin King said the Plan of Conservation and Development has entered the final graphic design phase and will be submitted to the town council for discussion, with public comment opening at the council meeting the commission identified in March. She told commissioners she will circulate the near-final plan and invited further comments.
A member who worked on the state wildlife action plan explained that conservation-opportunity-area maps produced for the statewide plan identify sites where actions such as protection, connection, management, research and outreach would most benefit species of greatest conservation need. The member said the wildlife action plan was submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service late last year and is now publicly available, including an interactive web viewer for geospatial products.
The commission agreed it would be useful to include the town-level wildlife maps in the plan of conservation and development, either by importing the maps into the final draft or adding them as an appendix. "If the data is now publicly available, I may be able to do some semi-final draft tweaks and see what I can import," King said.
What happens next: King will circulate the plan to commissions and attempt to include or append the wildlife maps before the council discussion. The commission did not vote on the plan at the March 18 meeting; the document will next appear at a council meeting for public review and comment.
