Moberly — The City Council on Oct. 16 adopted a package of ordinances approving nuisance abatement at several properties and directing the city clerk to issue special tax bills to recover abatement costs.
The ordinances, each read twice and approved on roll call, accepted reports from the director of community development authorizing abatements under chapter 26 of the Moberly city code. Properties covered included 527 Taylor Street; 430 South Fourth Street; 519 Southport (also recorded as South Fourth Street in packets); 824 Bond Street; 309 Austin Street; 837 West Coat Street; and the Concan/Concanon property listed in city materials. Council recorded unanimous affirmative votes on the ordinances.
Why it matters: the ordinances certify the city’s abatement costs and create a special tax billing process that places the expense on the affected parcel(s) if property owners do not reimburse the city. The actions finalize code enforcement steps that staff previously discussed at a work session.
Council procedure and comment: The mayor read each report on behalf of the director of community development; there was little public discussion on the individual addresses and no recorded dissent at the vote. The council moved the group of routine code enforcement items as part of regular business and approved them by roll call.
Next steps: As directed by the ordinances, the city clerk will issue special tax bills reflecting the certified abatement costs. Property owners will be notified in accordance with the city code and eligible appeal or payment procedures in chapter 26.
