Southern Gap High construction nears finish: turf, bleachers and classrooms progressing

District facilities staff presented a progress update on the new Southern Gap High School, showing photos and listing remaining work items as construction moves toward completion.

The update noted that football bleachers are installed and crews have started preparation for turf installation; sidewalk pours, fencing and final field prep remain on the schedule. Inside the building, drywall and ceilings are nearing completion and the third‑ and second‑floor wing flooring is substantially finished. Kitchen equipment and family consumer science equipment are being installed, and casework and counters are in progress in science classrooms.

Facilities staff said gym sub‑floor work has started and that crews will install the maple hardwood surface once sleepers and plywood are in place. The band room will receive ceiling and sound panels before final commissioning. For the nursing wing, remaining work items include hanging doors and installing window sills.

Board members asked about finishes and exterior work, and staff reiterated the need to complete asphalt, sidewalks and fence installation before the turf and fields can be put in service.
