Berea Planning Commission honors Betty Olinger and elects new officers

The Berea Planning Commission opened its Feb. 10 business session by recognizing longtime commissioner Betty Olinger for nearly 22 years of service to the commission and the city.
Amanda, speaking for city staff, said the commission planned to present Olinger with a certificate and a handcrafted gift to commemorate her service. The mayor, who attended the meeting, praised Olinger’s steady leadership, telling the commission she had been “consistent and fair” and noting Olinger’s prior service as chair of the Berea Housing Authority.
Commissioners then moved to reorganize leadership for 2026. Chair nominated Ben Robinson to succeed him as chair. After a second, the nomination was approved by voice vote with no opposition. Martin Richards was nominated and confirmed to continue as vice chair, and Greg Lakes was elected secretary. The commission also approved the minutes for the Jan. 13, 2026 meeting as amended.
The recognition and officer elections were procedural items on the agenda; city staff said the presentation items and certificates would be delivered to Olinger, who was not able to attend the meeting. The clerk will retain the signed minutes reflecting the approved changes.
The meeting then moved to substantive agenda items, including land-use petitions and a Stony Creek update.
