Osage County Conservation District asks commissioners for $45,000 in 2027 funding

Lori Kirkindall, representing the Osage County Conservation District, asked the county commissioners on May 26 to increase the district’s 2027 county appropriation to $45,000, up from $40,000 in recent years. "So this year we're requested 45,000," Kirkindall said, noting higher costs and ongoing programs she said support local contractors and conservation work.
Kirkindall told the commission the district brings additional funding into Osage County — she said about $151,000 did not come into the county last year only because of timing and availability of projects — and described recent work with area FFA chapters. She said the district applied for an education grant in April and expects to learn whether it was approved by the end of July; the grant would supply educational materials and loanable equipment for youth projects.
Tony Parish, the county controller referenced during the presentation, was identified as the contact for budgetary questions and staff said department budget requests will be routed through his office for the 2027 process. Commissioners thanked the district for its work and asked staff to consider the request as part of the upcoming budget compilation.
No formal funding decision was made at the meeting; the appropriation request will be considered during the county’s 2027 budget process, which commissioners moved separately to hire outside assistance to compile and certify.
