West Noble students showcase months-long theatre cleanout and plan car-wash fundraisers

Isaac Porter, theater director, told the board that Theatre 33 used spring production stipends to fund a service project to clear decades of stored props and costumes to prepare for an upcoming renovation. Porter said the effort began in December during preparations for the production Matilda and relied on off-site farm storage and repurposed former gym space to house cleaned and sorted materials.

Porter described a multi-stage effort that included clearing coats and a tool shed, purging rotted placards dating 2019–2026, and moving large set pieces into the former gymnastics area. "It took from December to now to fully get that place ready for renovations. So it was a Herculean task," Porter said, summarizing the months-long effort.

Students on the production team introduced themselves and described the benefits of the purge: more usable storage space, a fresh inventory, and improved organization. Naveah, a costume assistant, said the cleanout meant "we get to start new" and that the team now knows "what you got, you know where it is." Students described safety steps taken during the purge, including improvised air filters and measures to limit dust exposure while sorting items that had not been moved since the 1990s.

Porter also outlined program plans: Theatre 33 intends to continue two shows next school year (a fall production and a spring production) and to expand opportunities for other directors to lead productions. The group announced two student-led car-wash fundraisers, scheduled for June 11 and July 9, charging $12 per car; proceeds will support the theater program’s needs going into renovation.

Board members applauded the students and directors for the work. The presentation closed with the board inviting the public to attend upcoming shows, including a fall production scheduled for November and a spring play in April.
