Woodway approves interlocal agreement with county to chip-seal beach parking and Park Road 2

The Woodway City Council on Jan. 12 approved an interlocal agreement with McClennen County to chip-seal the beach parking area and Park Road 2 in the city for an amount not to exceed $88,976.70.
City Manager Mr. Davidson told the council the county’s road maintenance crews will perform the spring work. The item is budgeted in this year’s capital plan with $200,000 allocated; earlier work on Park Road One had already used roughly $100,000 of that budget. Staff said the county’s proposed price came in under the budgeted amount.
Council members asked whether the county could complete the work for the quoted price and noted favorable prior experience with the county’s work product. Members also raised related park improvements — including a request from Councilwoman Gilman to consider restrooms at the beach area during the next budget cycle — and ideas to enhance the beach area with buoys for a swim area.
A motion to enter into the interlocal agreement was moved and seconded; the council voted unanimously to approve the agreement. Staff said the county will schedule the work in spring and will bill the city per the interlocal agreement; no construction start date or contractor schedule was adopted during the meeting.
