The Umatilla City Council adopted a proclamation Tuesday declaring April 24, 2026, as Arbor Day in Umatilla.
Councilor Bruce Mlan, who described a partnership with the local school district and a second annual tree giveaway, read the proclamation into the record and asked for council action. He said last year the city was able to provide about 50 trees to residents who signed up; organizers are preparing a similar sign-up process on the city website this year.
The proclamation cites the benefits of trees for storm-water reduction, temperature moderation, air quality, property values and wildlife habitat and notes Umatilla’s participation in the Tree City USA program. Council moved, seconded and approved the proclamation on a roll-call vote of the members present.
Council staff said more details about the tree giveaway and the sign-up process will be posted on the city’s Civic Web page. The council adopted the proclamation as part of its March 17, 2026 meeting.
