Grand Terrace council asks staff to send noise complaint to National Orange Show promoter and to report on city AI use

At the Nov. 12 special meeting, Grand Terrace council members asked city staff to respond to resident complaints about excessive noise from a recent event at the National Orange Show and to prepare a separate report on the city’s use of artificial intelligence.
A council member said residents were disturbed by unusually loud sound from a recent rave and asked the city manager whether the administration could take action without a formal process. The city manager said staff could send a letter under the city manager’s signature to the event promoter and agreed to report back to the council on any response.
Separately, a council member who said they are a business owner in technology proposed a formal city policy on AI to establish guardrails around data privacy and the city’s use of public information. Council members said staff currently use some AI in routine work and asked the city manager to return with a report on how the city uses AI, planned uses, and recommended privacy and data-integrity protections.
The council did not adopt a policy at the meeting; members requested staff reports and a return to a future council meeting to consider next steps.
