Cedar Falls council advances five finalists for city administrator search

After a closed executive session to evaluate applicants under Iowa Code Section 21.5, the Cedar Falls City Council on March 16 moved five candidates forward in the city administrator selection process.
Clerk read the five recommended names for the record: Joshua Bolt; Larry Craig Clark; Jordan Cook; Stephen Lindner; and Philip Rath. The council voted to advance each candidate to a two‑day interview process scheduled for March 26–27. Staff said the March 26 evening will include a public forum/meet‑and‑greet from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and the candidates will participate in in‑person interviews and public engagement while in town.
Mayor and city attorney noted that the executive session was convened at the request of the candidates and under Iowa Code Section 21.5 to evaluate professional competency; the council agreed to respect that request and returned to open session to act on the recommendation. Council members commented the pool included "good candidates" and recorded an affirmative roll‑call vote to advance the group.
No final appointment was made on March 16; the action advances candidates to the public interview stage and preserves the confidentiality allowed by Iowa law during applicant evaluation.
