San Mateo County Transportation Authority outlines 101 'corridor connect' priorities, announces mini-grant program

Peter Skinner, chief officer of the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, presented an update on the 101 Corridor Connect program at the May 26 Millbrae City Council meeting, describing multimodal priorities and a mini-grant program to advance planning.
Skinner said Corridor Connect and the Active 101 effort identify safety, multimodal connectivity, inclusivity and sustainability as guiding goals and produced prioritized project lists across the county. For Millbrae the multimodal strategies included a proposed separated bike/ped overcrossing at Millbrae Avenue and several active-transportation projects intended to reduce congestion and improve crossings near US 101.
Skinner also announced the SMCTA board allocated $4 million for a mini-grant program to move priority projects into pre-planning and design: awards could be about $750,000 per project or up to $1 million for multi-jurisdictional efforts. He outlined planned outreach and a simple nomination process with anticipated nominations due within about four weeks and funding decisions expected in August.
During public comment Ann Snyder urged the authority to work to restore a previously prioritized crossing in regional plans and to help Millbrae get the project back on Plan Bay Area lists.
Skinner said the program emphasizes community outreach and technical assistance for cities that win grants, including consultant support and CBO engagement to help with public involvement.
